When travelling to a certain city, it is essential to know when the best time of the year is to come and what to expect from the local weather once you get there. Even though it is impossible to generalize information about the climate I want to share with you some basic info about The weather in Bordeaux and when to visit.

What is the weather in Bordeaux?

Bordeaux climate is classified as oceanic. Summers are long and quite warm, influenced by the Bay of Biscay and winters are cool and mild. Snow is very rare and I have seen it sprinkle for about 5 minutes, once in the four years I have lived here. Rain though, well get ready for it, because it often does rain here, especially during the spring and autumn seasons.

The average temperature during the winter is 7.1 °C (44.8 °F) and for the summer months, it is 20.7 °C. The months of July and August though tend to get very warm with temperatures around 30°C (86°F) on average (even at night…). It has gotten a lot hotter in the past few years in summer.
For example, the temperature was up to 48°C (112°F) for a few days in August 2022 and 2023.

What’s the best time to visit Bordeaux?

I would suggest you come between May to July or September to November. It might rain a bit during the second half of the year, but it’s not too warm or cold for a walk (it can get a bit chilly at night). Keep in mind almost everyone in France takes a vacation in July and even more so in August, so some locations, rentals, tours… might be unavailable due to being overcrowded.
